There are certain guys on the Red Sox who are almost locks to being an all star every year. Guys like Xander, Mookie, Price, Pedi, and possibly JBJ. Well, there is another name who is certainly deserving of at least an All Star bid (if not a start). His name?
Remember old Red Sox favorite Tim Wakefield? Well him and Wright have something in common. They both throw a nasty Knuckleball. The Knuckleballers both bedazzled hitters with the pitch.
Last night, Steven Wright pitched another 9 innings to drop his ERA 2.01, which is the lowest in the AL. Although he didn’t get the W, in which the sox failed to score with the bases loaded in the 9th, he was almost untouchable again.
His ending line: 9 inn, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 Ks
Wright is 8 and 4 on the year. However, he has pitched welled in all but one game. And well the bias Sox fan I am, I’m blaming it on the weather. If his record and earned run average isn’t enough then, well he is also tied for the lead in complete games with guys like Sale, Cueto, and oh uh Clayton Kershaw.
So if this doesn’t get Steven Wright at least a bid to the ALL STAR game (in my mind he should start), I don’t know what will.
For those wondering, the Sox would go on to lose the game in the 10th as Kimbrel came in an couldn’t keep the scores tied.
