After a disappointing series against the Minnesota Twins, The Red Sox will have their second shot at the Texas Rangers. Let’s look at the match-ups. In the opening game, the pitching match-up will be Eduardo Rodriguez for Boston and Nick Martinez for Texas. Rodriguez will be making his Major League debut. He is the Red Sox 4th rated prospect for Boston. In Triple A, opposition is only hitting .256 this season when facing Rodriguez. Martinez, on the other hand, has never faced the Red Sox. However, he is 2-0 with a 3.41 ERA in 5 starts in the month of May. In game 2, Stephen Wright will be facing Yovani Gallardo. After tossing his best performance yet , Wright will be pitching against Texas for the first time in his young Major League career. For Texas, Gallardo will be facing Boston for the 2nd time this year. In his first game, Yovani pitched just 5 innings in a 4-3 loss at Fenway. Games 3 and 4, Boston will put Wade Miley followed by Joe Kelly on the rubber. Miley has begun to turn it around in the month of May. He is 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA just this month. The match-up to watch is him verses Elvis Andrews who is currently 0-7 when facing Miley. Joe Kelly, however, has been going the opposite way. In his last 3 starts, he is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA. He needs to show a lot more consistency if he wants to keep his spot in the rotation. Texas has not announced who will pitch in this series. This is a big series for Boston as they are currently 4 games back of the Yankees. With a record of 21-26, the Sox are still in it however, they need to get better quickly or else it could be another disappointing season for the Boys in Red.
