January! A Black and Gold Success

The panic button, something that Boston Bruins fans never thought would be pushed this season. Going into January, every Bruins fan thought, is it time to finally push that button? We all set dates and thought are we really watching the disintegration of the black and gold?

Then the period of hibernation had ended, and the boys were back. The month of January was the month of revival for the B’s. Going 8-1-3 was something no one had in mind, and now they are right back into the middle the playoff picture.
Key victories over the defending champs the LA Kings, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders were just a few of the key victories.

It all starts with goaltending, and Tuukka Rask had himself a month. Rask went 7-1-3 in the month, with a lone regulation loss at the hands of Columbus. What’s amazing is Rask held his adversaries to 2 or less goals in 9 of his 11 outings. Tuukka-Time is back, and the NHL’s Third Star of the month looks to continue this success.

Another bright spot was the young Czech Davis Pastrnak. The 18 year-old came on strong with a 2 two goal games against Philly and Tampa Bay. The scoring has slowed down for the kid but his back checking and passing has been on point. Glad to see Julien and Chiarelli are sticking with this guy.

The scoring has come from everywhere as well. The B’s have 10 guys with 20 or more points this season. One being Dougie Hamilton who has a career high 27 points. Dougie doesn’t look like he will be slowing down either. He’ll be a top 2 defenseman soon.

Now the move that we were all thinking they were going to make may not happen now. After this month, fans including myself have been saying why make a move. The way the teams playing right now could hurt the chemistry of locker room. I’m not saying a move for a big name wouldn’t be good, but right now it may not be the best.

February is going to be a tough with tough tests against some of the best. Not only do the B’s have Chicago and St Louis on the road. But the final game against the hated rival Montreal. A win against the Habs is pivotal, not a must win but a do or die win.

12 games in the month of February, all against good teams. Let’s hope for at least 7-8 wins, if they can swing 9-10 then might as well give us the Cup now.
